Registering with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB)
EU/EEA and Swiss Citizens
If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you are not required to register with the Irish immigration authorities.
All Other Students (Non-EU/EEA/Swiss Citizens)
All non-Irish nationals who are not citizens of the EU/EEA or Switzerland must register in person with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) after arriving in Ireland and completing registration at their higher education institution.
Upon registration, you will be issued an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card. The fee for this card is €300, payable by credit card, debit card, or bank giro.

Documents Required for Registration:
- Valid passport
- Current student ID card
- Proof of financial support, such as:
- A recent bank statement in your name
- A letter from your parent/guardian guaranteeing financial support
- A letter from your sponsor confirming funding
- Letter from your college confirming student status, course start date, duration, and proof of fee payment
- Proof of private health insurance
- €300 payment (credit card, debit card, or bank giro only)
