Religion in Ireland

Although Ireland has traditionally been a predominantly Roman Catholic country, it is now a diverse and multicultural society that welcomes and respects all faiths. Religion continues to play an important role in Irish community life and culture.

Other major religious groups include the Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Baptist Churches, as well as Eastern Orthodox, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon, and Salvation Army communities. Ireland is also home to Buddhist, Hindu, Baha’i, Islamic, and Jewish centres.

Most universities and colleges provide multi-faith prayer rooms or spaces for students to practice their religion comfortably while studying in Ireland.
